Masturbation often performed by an individual to release their sexual desires. But a new study suggests masturbation may relieve Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS).
Restless leg syndrome is a neurological disorder that causes an irresistible urge to move the legs even while sleeping. Those suffering from it also feel unpleasant sensations such as aching, burning, creeping, crawling, tingling and itching in the lower limbs.
This syndrome causes the sufferer can not sleep soundly because the urge to move and unpleasant sensations happen when you are resting and inactive.
The exact cause of restless leg syndrome is unknown, but brain autopsy and imaging found that imbalance of dopamine could be an important factor.
Even though, drugs that increase dopamine can reduce restless leg syndrome when taken, but men who age over 41 with the condition found complete relief after masturbation or sex.
Luis Marin and colleagues at the Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, speculate that the release of orgasm-related dopamine might play a role in relieving restless leg syndrome symptoms.
According to Marin, orgasm is one way to release dopamine hormones into the body.
This increase in dopamine can act similar to drugs that mimic the hormones, providing assistance to relieve reduce restless leg syndrome symptoms so patients with RLS may sleep soundly.
